FAQ’s

What is the difference between sourdough bread and normal bread?

The difference between sourdough and other breads is that sourdough uses a starter culture rather than a baker’s yeast. Sourdough starter is simply flour and water that’s fermented for weeks, months, or even years. Unlike normal bread, sourdough can have a more complex and chewier texture – thanks to this extra fermentation time. Sourdough bread has also been described as having more of a tangy flavour, whereas normal bread tends to have more of a neutral, softer flavour.

Is ciabatta a sourdough?

While they can look similar, ciabatta bread isn’t a sourdough. Ciabatta isn’t made using sourdough starter, which means it isn’t a form of sourdough. Ciabatta is a white bread made with olive oil which has a more neutral flavour. It also has a higher water content, giving it a lighter texture than sourdough.

Is sourdough bread good for sandwiches?

Sourdough bread is great for sandwiches, with many people using it to create unique sandwich combinations. Sourdough bread gives an extra flavour dimension to sandwiches with its slight sourness, adding depth to the overall taste of the sandwich. It also holds together well because of its chewy texture, which makes it great for sandwiches that you need to make ahead of time.
