FAQ’s

What does it mean to macerate strawberries?

Maceration simply means to soften or sweeten produce by letting it soak in a liquid. The process of maceration refers to letting fruit sit in a substance like sugar or juice to tenderise it and intensify the natural flavours. Typically fruits like berries, bananas and even pineapple can be macerated.

Do you put cream on scones first?

Whether you put your cream on your scones first or last will depend on the recipe and also where you are. In the UK specifically, there are two common methods that decide the order of your scone toppings. The first is the Devon Method where cream is placed first. The Cornish Method, on the other hand, will spread jam first, then put cream on top.

At the end of the day, it’s down to the specific recipe and also your own preference!

What goes well with scones?

There’s no shortage of toppings and accompaniments that go well with scones. Some popular sweet toppings include things like jam, cream and sweet fruits like strawberries. Sometimes people even add honey or lemon curd. For savoury options, popular toppings include cheese, ham, and smoked salmon. Remember, you can get creative and try different combinations until you find one you love!
