FAQs

Is a croissant a cake or bread?

A croissant is in fact neither a cake or bread, but a pastry. The French classify them as a type of pastry, known as a Viennoiserie. This is anything made from dough leavened with yeast, or puff pastry, but with extra ingredients like eggs, butter and cream. Whatever you call them, they make a fantastic breakfast treat!

What can you make with croissants?

Honestly, what can’t you make with croissants! While they taste great on their own, they’re so versatile you can add them to a range of sweet and savoury dishes. Create a sandwich with a twist, a mouth-watering pudding, or a savoury breakfast bake to share. Whatever the occasion, croissants are always a crowd-pleaser.

Can you use croissants instead of puff pastry?

While you can use croissants instead of puff pastry, the result will be different. Croissant dough is different to puff pastry as it contains yeast, which makes it a different texture to puff pastry. That said, croissants work well as the star of the show in a number of different recipes, so there’s plenty of room for creativity!
